Captain Lance Davies was born in upstate New York, but moved to Georgia at age 12. Lance has a background in photography and was a professional photographer for over 20 years. He has always had a love of the water and spent much of his time boating or SCUBA diving. Lance moved to St. John in 2010 and began working as a dive master at Caneel Bay.

Lance is still passionate about photography, and spends his free time capturing the island’s beauty above and under the water. He is also an excellent tennis player, and enjoys playing with locals and guests at the public tennis courts in Cruz Bay, and also at the Caneel Bay tennis center.
sail-pepper-kim-ivans
First Mate Kim Sammartano is originally from Chicago, IL. She has been coming to St. John since 2002, and became a permanent resident in 2010 to work for Maho Bay Camps as a cook. It was during her time at Maho Bay Camps that she met Pepper’s previous owners, Fred & Renee. Kim fell in love with Pepper, and with Fred & Renee’s easy-going nature. When Maho Bay Camps closed in May of 2013, Fred & Renee retired, and Kim started dreaming about keeping Maho Bay’s spirit alive by continuing to run Pepper just as Fred & Renee have for many years.

Kim’s background is in art and music. Before moving to St. John, she worked as an art director for various magazines in Chicago and Atlanta. She is also a wheel potter, and sold her functional stoneware pottery in art & craft shows throughout the southeast. She brought her passion for pottery to the island, and continues to make pieces in her small studio. Kim does custom work for select clients, and sells other pieces to interested individuals. (If you’d like to purchase a hand-crafted souvenir, ask her to see what she has in stock while you’re on Pepper!)
